transformation app project
hers* is an advanced app that shows safe places and routes. It creates the ability to act in dangerous situations and builds a community that supports each other. Together we are stronger!

Mission
hers* aims to take away FLINTA*'s feelings of insecurity in public space, point out safe places and strengthen the community. Through information and mutual support, empowerment is promoted and public space is used again in a fear-free and self-determined way. After an incident of catcalling, (sexual) harassment and/or assault, the powerless feeling can be expressed and one's own ability to act is regained. The community is an exclusive safe space for FLINTA*.
Vision
Through voluntary donations of data, a basis is created which, on the one hand, serves to promote and support gender-responsive urban planning. On the other hand, real statistics with direct figures on harassment and assaults in public space can be collected for the first time. In this way, the community itself provides highly visible arguments for more awareness and prevention work in society.
How it works
hers* is on the one hand an app that enables safe routing based on the data collected with the help of the community, shows SaferSpaces and provides a central place for information such as home phones, self-defence tips, current campaigns and know-how that are helpful in emergency situations.
In an emergency situation, an alarm can be raised, which in turn seeks help from people in the hers* community who are in the vicinity. These people can rush to the aid of the person in danger. The collective creates an improved sense of security. If the alarm is triggered, a process runs in the background that informs stored emergency contacts after a certain time or sends an emergency call if necessary. The personalisation and adaptation of these and other functions to personal needs is of central importance in the app.
The SafetyDevice, makes it possible to mark unsafe places and send an alarm. It can be used both in combination with the app and independently of it. It adopts the default settings of the app and offers the possibility to move safely without a smartphone, for example while jogging.
Prevention
In addition to the empowering and informing functions as well as active help in emergency situations, a great deal of attention is paid to the prevention of assaults. Therefore, information on safe and unsafe places and experiences on the route are collected centrally. The sensitive handling of this data and its different classification is a crucial part of the Safetymap. This data can in turn be used by city planners and municipalities to improve gender equality in cities. The data also serves as reliable statistics on catcalling, assault and harassment and can be used as arguments for prevention and awareness work. Thus, the powerless feeling after an incident can be given a voice in the statistics, which at the same time strengthen the interests of the community.
